The Healthy Schools award was launched in 1999. Its aim is to promote, protect and embed the physical, mental and social health and wellbeing of the community. The award consists of 7 elements; these include food and fitness, emotional health and wellbeing, personal development and relationships, substance use and misuse, the environment, safety and hygiene.
At Crymlyn Primary school we aim to educate and promote healthy living amongst all of our children. Having achieved phases 1 – 5 in the past we are now working towards phase 6. To help us achieve this, our children participate in many ‘Healthy Living’ activities across the whole primary phase. All classes have access to weekly PE lessons including a week block of Swimming for key stage 2 as part of their curriculum. A variety of our themes encourage our pupils to be physically active and learn about the health benefits of foods and the dangers of others. The school council at Crymlyn plan and deliver assemblies to increase awareness of initiatives and regularly plan competitions and fund raising events to promote a healthy lifestyle for all the children in the school.
These are some of the initiatives we promote to help our children to make healthy lifestyle choices. Please click on the images for more information.
